With a vast expanse, this township has a total area of 36.0808 square kilometers. High in the east and low in the west, the topography runs down from the northeast to the southwest like a long spiral shell. In the east, the terrain is both high and hilly, making farming difficult; in the smooth west, the plain is fertile and is a rich and populous farming area for this township. At the outset of development, settlers were all forefathers who followed Koxinga in the later period of the Ming Dynasty to come over to Taiwan from China's Fukien Province and Guangdong Province. After setting foot in Taiwan, due to complicated ancestry and different clans, they scattered in all directions depending upon their time of arrival.

As a result, some clans were increasingly flourishing, and some were on the decline. Amongst them, clans that could become examples for future generations are as follows: Liu of Renwu Village, Shen and Chiang of Wenwu Village, Lin of Wulin Village, Chien of Jhuhou Village, Wu of Wuluodacuo in Kaotan Village, Cheng of Wannei Village, and hsieh (of Catonese Hakka origin) of Bagua Village. In the beginning, after coming to Taiwan, the forefathers of each clan scattered in all corners of the township. With the spirits of pioneers, they bore hardship and hard work, and through industry and thrift, they painstakingly toiled to give an initial shape to the township in the early days of the Ching Dynasty. Recalling the forefathers' painstaking efforts, we ought to spare no effort to make the hometown prosper and devote ourselves heart and soul to the township and the country. Only by carrying on the heritage so as to pave the way for future generations, can we be worthy of the descendants of the dragon.
