"Ren is a
virtue of the wise, while wu is a manner of the brave." Among the
names of all townships in Kaohsiung County, except Renwu, there is
no one implying both ren and wu at the same time, or the virtue of
the saint and the manner of the brave. How beautiful my hometown
is!
The origin of the name of the town is recorded in a local chronicle: "After Koxinga occupied Taiwan, he began to implement the policy of opening up uncultivated land to raise armies in every town. |

Originally a wasteland, this township was then incorporated into Renwu Township for cultivation, and hence its name." "From Koxinga on, this township was called Renwu Village(jhuang). In the Ching Dynasty, though its name remained the same, it belonged to Guanyin Village(li). During the Japanese occupation, 16 years before the foundation of the Republic of China (R.O.C.), the township saw the establishment of Zone 8 and was placed under the branch office of Fongshan, Tainan." Eleven years before the creation of the R.O.C., the township was renamed Kaotan District and was

put under Nanzhi Branch Office, Fongshan Office.Three years prior to the birth of the R.O.C., Fongshan Office was merged into Tainan Office; and this township was placed under the Nanzih Branch Office, Tainan Office. In 1920, the township was renamed Renwu Village(jhuang) and belonged to Kaohsiung Prefecture, Kaohsiung State. In 1924, Kaohsiung was changed from prefecture to city; the township was placed under the jurisdiction of Fongshan Prefecture. After Taiwan's restoration, the township was renamed Renwu Township."
